Bridge to accept E-ZPass by month’s end at latest

pCOLLINS LANDING — Travelers will have the option to use E-ZPass to cross the Thousand Islands International Bridge system by the end of the month, if not sooner./ppTransCore, Nashville, installed new scanning technology at the four U.S. tolls and three Canadian tolls in Lansdowne, Ontario so they can accept E-ZPass in addition to cash, credit/debit cards and discount fares. Thousand Islands Bridge Authority officials hope to launch the service by June 20, but Executive Director Robert G. Horr III said testing this week will determine the specific start date. /pp“It’s been a long road, certainly, but I think in end we’ll end up with a really good product,” Mr. Horr said. /ppThe authority and Federal Bridge Corp., which owns the Canadian span, will replace the plastic commuter discount fare cards, which have allowed travelers to purchase multiple trips at once at a discount, with stickers for car windshields when the new scanning technology becomes operational. /ppThe toll systems will scan the stickers and lift the gates for travelers like they will with E-ZPass.
