Chateaugay man escapes serious injury in plane crash

pFULTON — A Chateaugay man escaped serious injury when his private plane crashed on a public road during an apparent emergency landing attempt in the city of Fulton Thursday afternoon./ppNo one on the ground was injured, Fulton police said./ppMichael E. Simpson, 49, was flying from the Malone Dufort Airport to the Fulton airport when his plane lost power about a mile from his destination, Fulton Police Investigator Michael Curtis said Friday. Simpson was apparently attempting to glide the plane — a two-seat, single-engine Cessna 150G — in for a landing on a local road when its wing clipped a utility pole and crashed near the corner of North Fourth and Ontario streets in a populated area of the city, Curtis said./ppThe crash occurred almost directly in front of the Oswego County Ambulance building, Curtis said. Employees of the ambulance service rushed outside to assist and found Simpson still in the plane — which had its single wing essentially sheared off — conscious and talking, he said./ppSimpson was taken to Upstate Medical University in Syracuse for treatment of injuries Curtis said were not considered serious./ppThe only damage — aside from the plane itself — was a broken light on the utility …read more
