CANTON — The end of the first semester was a tough time for St. Lawrence University sophomore defenseman Jake Stevens, who missed eight straight games with a lower-body injury, including all three of SLU’s games against rival Clarkson.
Stevens, a 6-foot-2, 205-pounder from Naperville, Ill., played in all 37 games for the Saints (3-14-1 overall, 1-4-1 ECAC Hockey) as a freshman, so missing this much time was a new collegiate experience.
He returned to SLU’s lineup last weekend as the Saints dropped a pair of games in Las Vegas, falling 7-1 to Air Force and 6-3 to Connecticut.
“It wasn’t easy,” Stevens said. “They kind of threw me into the fire quickly, after winter break I didn’t have my gear to skate with over Christmas. I came back with a week of practice and it was off to Vegas. It was definitely a quick turnaround. It felt good to be back and try to help the team win.
“This is probably the longest I’ve been injured in a long time. It hasn’t been easy for me, physically or mentally, All you can do is work as hard as you can to get back in top shape.”
