High school roundup: Carthage volleyball squad gets past Watertown in five sets

WATERTOWN — The Carthage volleyball team outlasted rival Watertown to prevail 3-2 in an early season Frontier League “A” Division showdown Tuesday.

Liya Mace finished with 25 assists and Julia Fox totaled 16 kills and 16 digs for the Comets (3-0), who won the match, 18-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-27 and 25-20.

Mikenzie Martens contributed 12 kills and 23 assists for Carthage and Laura Albright tallied 11 kills and 13 digs.

Bailey Woodard totaled 31 assists and 15 digs for the Cyclones (1-2) and Sarah Kilburn tallied two blocks, 11 kills and 11 digs. Lilah McIntyre contributed one block and 11 kills and Tiffany Russell finished with nine kills.

Sandy creek 3, Indian River 0

Carly Lyndaker finished with three blocks and 12 kills as the Comets swept the Warriors, 25-16, 25-10, 25-18, in Sandy Creek.

Bailey Fahnestock contributed 10 digs and 12 service points, Lainie Hathaway had six kills and six digs and Maddy Bauer finished with 19 assists and 12 service points for Sandy Creek (2-2, 1-2).

Kaila Gilpatric totaled three aces, two blocks and four kills for Indian River (0-3) and Tihani Mackenzie and Cassidy Deuink contributed 11 and 9 digs, respectively.
