Hinchey win leaves Senate Dems one victory shy of supermajority

ALBANY — The state Senate majority is just one declared victory away from snagging a much-sought supermajority in their chamber following Friday’s win in the 46th District by Democrat Michelle Hinchey.

The 32-year-old Saugerties native overtook Republican Rich Amedure, a 56-year-old Rensselaerville resident, for the Senate seat following a tally of absentee ballots. Polls closed Nov. 3 with Amedure carrying a sizable lead, but as absentees have been counted in many legislative races, Democrats later secured enough paper ballots to make up the deficit.
