WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Federal Hockey League-leading Carolina Thunderbirds scored the first four goals of the game to help prolong both team’s respective streaks in their 4-2 victory over the Watertown Wolves on Saturday night at the Winston-Salem Fairground Annex.
Jiri Pargac notched a goal and an assist for Carolina (33-4), which has won a league-record 24 straight games. Josh Pietrantonio, Viktor Grebennikov and Jay Kenney each added goals while Henry Dill made 27 saves for the Thunderbirds. Carolina has won all six meetings so far with Watertown this season.
Justin Portillo and Kyle Powell each recorded a goal and an assist for Watertown (15-19), which has lost a franchise-worst 11 in a row. Jared Rutledge posted 53 saves for the Wolves, who sit in third place over the Port Huron Prowlers.
The two teams will round out the three-game set at 4 p.m. today before the Wolves and the second-place Elmira Enforcers play a home-and-home series. Friday’s game will be at 7:05 p.m. in Elmira at the Saturday game will be 7:30 p.m. at the Watertown Municipal Arena.
