Northern New York Newspapers hosting Recycle Newspaper Day

pIn honor of Earth Day, Northern New York Newspapers and Jefferson Community College are teaming up for their first Recycle Newspaper Day on April 22./ppFrom 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., community members can bring their newspapers to be recycled at the offices of the Watertown Daily Times, 260 Washington St., Watertown, the Courier Observer and Ogdensburg Journal, 1 Harrowgate Commons, Massena, or the St. Lawrence Plaindealer, 1 Main St., Canton. Each resident who brings in newspapers will receive a free gift of seeds in recycled paper to plant in their garden./ppAlec E. Johnson, managing editor of the Watertown Daily Times, said the newspaper recycles tons of newsprint each year and the newsprint on which the daily and weekly papers are printed is made from largely recycled content. /pp“It is conceivable that the newspapers the public returns will be sent to a mill and recycled into newsprint we will later use to print a new paper,” he said.
