Construction of a new lounge for sports wagering is under way at Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady.
The casino expects to complete work on the space this summer, but the start of legalized sports wagering in New York is still dependent on state regulators adopting industry regulations, which are subject to public comment until next week.
The new 5,000-square-foot space at Rivers will be adjacent to the Van Slyck lounge, located off the main gaming floor, and will include club chairs and table seating to accommodate about 80 people and five private booths with monitors. The viewing area will feature a 53-foot-long video wall.
The casino plans on staffing six betting windows and providing 16 self-serve kiosks that can accept bets.
“We think sports fans and sports bettors throughout the Capital Region and beyond will be thrilled with the new sportsbook and are looking forward to welcoming them into the casino to place legal wagers for the first time,” Rivers Casino & Resort acting General Manager Justin Moore said in a statement.
